
Reporting Units
As Executive Vice President and Provost, Meredith Hay is the chief academic officer of the University, overseeing all academic programs and units for one of the nation's leading public research universities. She also serves as the chief operations officer for the UA, which has more than 37,000 students on three campuses, and holds a tenured appointment as professor of physiology at the College of Medicine.
Dr. Hay is internationally known for her work in cardiovascular neurobiology and her current studies on the role of sex and sex differences in the development of hypertension. She maintains active participation in the American Physiological Society, the Society for Neuroscience, AAAS, and serves on numerous editorial boards of prestigious scientific journals and grant review panels for the NIH and the National American Heart Association. Dr. Hay has continued to sustain a vigorous research program and leads an NIH-funded research laboratory.
Before joining the UA, Dr. Hay was the Vice President for Research for the University of Iowa, where she worked with state and federal lawmakers, private sector representatives, and local community groups to broaden both private and public support.
The Texas native earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver, her master's degree in neurobiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and her doctorate in cardiovascular pharmacology from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center-San Antonio. She trained as a postdoctoral fellow in the Cardiovascular Center at the University of Iowa College of Medicine and the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
