Professor & Co-Chair Strategic Planning and Budget Advisory Committee (SPBAC)
Randy Richardson has served the UA in a number of administrative roles at a variety of levels, from interim department head to associate dean to vice president for undergraduate education. He has also been co-chair of the last two UA Higher Learning Commission / North Central Associate decadal accreditation efforts in 2000 and 2010. He currently serves as co-chair of the Strategic Planning and Budget Advisory Committee, an advisory committee to the UA administration and a part of UA shared governance.
Dr. Richardson’s research interests include the dynamics of plate tectonics from the driving mechanism of plate tectonics to mountain building, and science education, especially quantitative literacy for non-science majors, faculty development, and departmental success. He has been the PI or Co-PI on a wide range of funded projects from the National Science Foundation and the United States Geological Survey, and has numerous peer-reviewed articles in flagship journals such as the Journal of Geophysical Research. He has served as a member and chair of a variety of outreach committees for several national professional organizations, including the American Geophysical Union, the American Institute of Physics, and the National Association of Geoscience Teachers.
Dr. Richardson’s teaching interests include large General Education geology natural science courses and upper division and graduate courses in geophysics and inverse theory.
