Senior Vice President & Provost

Jacqueline Lee Mok serves as the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff in the Office of the President.

Dr. Mok came to the University of Arizona in 1997 as assistant dean in the College of Fine Arts, and assumed further duties as associate dean in 2000. In 2004, she joined the Office of the Provost; during her four years there, she held positions as both assistant vice provost and vice provost. In 2008, Dr. Mok was appointed by President Robert N. Shelton as the first Vice President and Chief of Staff. President Eugene G. Sander asked Dr. Mok in August 2011 to add to her portfolio the responsibilities of provost on an interim basis while  the search for a permanent university president is undertaken and for that president to select his/her provost.

Prior to joining the UA, Dr. Mok worked for six years at the University of Washington as a program developer of continuing education programs in the arts. She also served for five and a half years as a cultural attaché, with international postings as a member of the United States diplomatic corps in Paris; Lagos, Nigeria; and Colombo, Sri Lanka.  Mok has been the education director for Seattle Opera, an arts education consultant for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund in New York City and a music education specialist in New York and Texas schools.

Dr. Mok received her bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College in Vermont. She earned her master’s degree in music education from the University of North Texas and her doctorate in arts education from New York University. Her expertise is in music education and arts administration; her academic home is the School of Music.  Dr. Mok also has participated in the HERS/Bryn Mawr Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration and the Management Development Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
