Vice President for Global Initiatives
Mike Proctor is Vice President for Global Initiatives at the University of Arizona. Mike facilitates the implementation of international programs in a wide range of areas, including large research initiatives, faculty mobility, study abroad, student exchange, passports and visas, and strategic multinational collaborations. Mike’s office also supports all incoming international students (from 108 countries this year), and over 1000 visiting scholars annually.
Mike is also a professor in Watershed Management in the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, and teaches Environmental Law in the Department of Soil, Water and Environmental Science. Mike has a long affiliation with the University of Arizona which includes a 1983 bachelor's degree in renewable natural resources and a 1988 J.D. He has worked in natural resource positions in Arizona and New Mexico; practiced law for 12 years, including seven years as a UA attorney and five years in private practice; served as director and assistant vice president for corporate relations for the UA; associate dean for external affairs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences; and previously coordinated the UA’s distance education and branch campus programs.
