Background

The Community of Practice (CoP) for Academic Success Goals brings together faculty and staff from across the university to collaborate in advancing the institution’s Academic Success Goals (ASGs). Led by Senior Provost Fellow Melanie Hingle, the CoP partners with Provost Fellow for Academic Success Goals to contribute ideas, expertise, and feedback that support the ongoing implementation and continuous improvement of the ASGs.

The CoP will convene quarterly over the course of one year, providing sustained opportunities for engagement, reflection, and cross-campus collaboration focused on operationalizing the Academic Success Goals.

Using a Delphi Technique–inspired approach, the CoP engages faculty and staff in structured, iterative dialogue designed to surface collective expertise, build consensus, and strengthen shared ownership and alignment across units.

Meetings will include updates on ASG implementation, facilitated discussions, and iterative feedback loops. Between meetings, participants may engage in targeted consultations, brief surveys, or small working groups to refine priorities, assess progress, and inform next steps.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Community of Practice

Members of the Community of Practice will serve in the following roles:

  • Sounding Board and Consultation Group: Provide structured feedback and informed consultation on ASG-related strategies, initiatives, and implementation efforts.
  • Collaboration with Provost Fellows: Work in partnership with Provost Fellows to share unit-level insights and strengthen alignment between unit practices and institutional goals.
  • Unit-Level “Pulse Check”: Serve as a mechanism for gauging ASG implementation across colleges, departments, and functional units, identifying patterns, barriers, and promising practices.
  • Source of Expertise and Best Practices: Contribute disciplinary, functional, and expertise, elevating effective practices that can be adapted or scaled institution-wide.
  • Contribution to Institutional Knowledge: Build a shared body of knowledge by documenting lessons learned, implementation insights, and consensus-based recommendations to support ongoing ASG work.
  • Networking and Professional Development: Promote cross-unit collaboration, peer learning, and professional development through sustained engagement in a community of practice model.
  • Co-authorship and Knowledge Sharing: May serve as co-authors on a white paper documenting the CoP process and lessons learned from operationalizing the Academic Success Goals.
