RE:           Five-Year Reviews of Administrators

Given the COVID19 challenges and added workloads in the Fall 2020 semester, I recommend that Five-Year Reviews of Administrators scheduled or rescheduled for 2020-2021 be delayed until Spring 2021. Reviews that are already initiated may be completed this semester at the discretion of the Chair of the review committee. The Five Year Review policy for administrators can be found in full at UHAP 5.3.  This current policy is under revision and we may have new policy and procedure updates by January 2021.

A key goal of Five-Year Reviews is not only performance assessment, but also to provide an opportunity to assess long-range goals and objectives, a process that greatly impacted by to the uncertainties introduced by the global COVID 19 pandemic.

However, all administrators can benefit from regular feedback from the people they manage, from those with whom they collaborate across campus, and from their own supervisors. Accordingly, input from these groups will be required this year as part of administrator annual review.  Administrators’ supervisors can find the Qualtrics library survey here to view and copy the sample template.

A few reminders about the Five-Year Review: A five-year review is not required nor anticipated if an administrator will not be renewed in accordance with the process outlined in Section 5.4. In unusual circumstances, the faculty of a college or department or a supervising administrator may wish to initiate a review of a designated administrator prior to the next scheduled five-year review; more details on this process can be found under UHAP 5.3.04.  For any additional questions please contact Vice Provost Andrea Romero, romeroa@arizona.edu.
