Dear colleagues,

At the end of March, the university announced a new era for online education, and Frank Dooley was appointed to oversee online initiatives during this period of integration and modernization.

I am pleased to share that we have formally launched a global search for a senior vice provost for online education.

We are seeking a visionary leader who possesses deep experience and expertise in online pedagogy and best practices to lead the operations of a modern online enterprise. This executive will oversee our new joint online entity that brings together Arizona Online and University of Arizona Global Campus.

I have asked Dean Regina Deil-Amen to serve as chair of the search committee. As dean of the College of Education and a respected scholar of higher education, Dr. Deil-Amen brings extensive experience in academic leadership, student success and educational innovation, including research on how digital platforms can support student engagement and achievement.

I am grateful for Frank Dooley’s collaborative leadership and expertise as he continues to serve in an interim role while we conduct the search process and advance the integration of our online entities. I also want to thank Caleb Simmons, Blake Naughton, Christine Hardy, Nikki Koji and Katie Scheie, who work alongside Frank in the day-to-day operations of our online education programs and continue to provide expertise and excellence in supporting our online students.

We will keep the campus community informed about the search and provide opportunities for engagement as the process progresses.

As we move forward, our work to implement our online modernization plan continues. This new framework will align the capabilities of Arizona Online and the University of Arizona Global Campus into a unified, streamlined service model that supports access to career education, academic excellence and graduation.

Thank you for your continued partnership in strengthening online education at the University of Arizona and providing all learners a clear path to on-time degree completion and lifelong career success.

Warmly,

Patricia A. Prelock
Provost and Chief Academic Officer
