Dear Colleagues,

At the University of Arizona, student success is our North Star. We work together to ensure Wildcats receive a high-quality education and have the support they need to succeed.

To support this work, the university is participating in the Faculty Survey of Student Engagement (FSSE), which looks at effective educational practices that are linked to high levels of learning and development and measures instructional staff expectations for student engagement.

At the same time, first-year and senior students are invited to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The survey asks students about their academic experiences, study time and interactions with instructional staff. This year’s survey also includes questions about academic advising and career preparation.

Through the FSSE and NSSE, we gain critical insight into the student experience and the teaching practices that shape it. Together, these surveys provide a comprehensive view of engagement inside and outside the classroom. The combined findings help us advance our Academic Success Goals, strengthen institutional strategy, and ensure every Wildcat benefits from a rigorous, supportive, and high-quality educational environment.

I ask that you encourage first-year and senior students, as well as faculty, instructors, and graduate students who teach undergraduate courses in your colleges and departments, to complete the NSSE and FSSE upon receiving their survey invitations.

About the surveys

  • The NSSE and FSSE are administered from March 16 through May 11 by the Center for Postsecondary Research at Indiana University.
  • The surveys take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete.
  • Responses will be confidential and no identifying information will be provided to the University of Arizona.
  • Results and analyses will be shared with the campus community in Fall 2026.

The survey project team has developed an informational video and a marketing toolkit to support you and your teams in sharing information about NSSE and FSSE. Please visit the NSSE and FSSE website for additional details and resources.

Thank you for your partnership in advancing student success.
