Rethinking Degree Pathways to Strengthen Student Success

Updated 10:28 a.m. November 3, 2026

Provost and Chief Academic Officer Patricia Prelock and Chair of the Faculty Leila Hudson have convened a new Task Force on 90-Credit and Three-Year Degree Programs. Co-chaired by Interim Vice Provost Amy Kimme Hea and Secretary of the Faculty Susan Miller-Cochran, the Task Force will explore opportunities and challenges associated with accelerated and reduced-credit bachelor’s degree pathways across Main Campus, AZ Online, and UAGC.

Charge

The Task Force will examine practices at peer institutions, identify opportunities for innovation, assess the feasibility of pilot programs, and recommend potential entry pathways. Its work will focus on advancing student affordability, responding to workforce needs, and maintaining the quality and integrity of the bachelor’s degree.

To inform its recommendations, the Task Force will engage department heads, chairs, directors, deans, and faculty through surveys, questionnaires, and focus groups, ensuring that perspectives from across the university are represented.

Timeline

The Task Force will submit an interim progress report to Provost Patricia Prelock and Chair of the Faculty Leila Hudson by January 15, 2027, followed by a final report. The Task Force will also present its findings and recommendations to the Faculty Senate at its May 2027 meeting.
