David Hahn

Dr. David Hahn is the Craig M. Berge Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Arizona.  Prior to joining UA in 2019, he spent more than 20 years at the University of Florida, including 8 years as chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and as manager of the UF REEF, a collaborative education and research campus adjacent to Eglin AFB. 

He has significant experience providing strategic direction and managerial oversight to the education and research enterprises at the University of Arizona and the University of Florida, including formulating the current plan to significantly grow the UA College of Engineering. Hahn has a demonstrated record as a teacher and researcher, the author of well more than 100 archival publications and co-author with M.N. Özişik of the textbook Heat Conduction, with expertise in heat transfer, renewable energy, laser-material interactions, and spectroscopy. 

Hahn received his BS and PhD degrees in Mechanical Engineering from LSU.  Following graduation, he was an NRC Fellow at the US FDA, and then joined Sandia National Laboratories, spending 4 years there before joining UF in 1998.  He is a strong proponent of diversity in the STEM fields and received the UF Society of Women Engineers chapter Outstanding Support of Women in Engineering Award.  He received the 2013-2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award from LSU’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.  He is a Fellow of ASME, the Optical Society (Optica), and the Society for Applied Spectroscopy.
