Jenny Lee

Vice President for Arizona International and Dean of International Education

Dr. Jenny J. Lee is the Vice President for Arizona International and Dean of International Education. Dr. Lee leads as the senior international officer for the university, overseeing global partnerships, programs, and outreach abroad. Arizona International’s functions and activities include the Global Center, International Admissions, International Affairs, International Faculty, Scholars, and Alumni, International Student Services, International Travel, Study Abroad, and the Microcampus Network. She also partners with university units across campus in strategizing and supporting the university’s internationalization efforts.

Dr. Lee is a thought leader in global higher education. She is a Fellow of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and serves as the AERA Vice President for Division J (Postsecondary Education). She formerly served as a NAFSA Senior Fellow, US Fulbright Scholar to South Africa, the Chair for the Council of International Higher Education and Board of Directors for the Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE). She has participated as a distinguished Global Professor at Korea University and as an international visiting scholar at the City University of London, the University of Pretoria, and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

Prior to her current appointment, Dr. Lee was a professor at the Center for the Study of Higher Education and College of Education Dean's Fellow for Internationalization. Her scholarship examines how migration policies, geopolitics, and social forces shape inequities in higher education, in the US and abroad. Professor Lee has investigated university internationalization and partnerships, student and scholar mobility, and scientific collaboration. She has produced over 150 publications, served on numerous editorial boards, and secured major grants. Dr. Lee’s expertise is regularly sought by national and international news outlets.

 Dr. Lee’s latest research focuses on the geopolitics of global science, which is covered in her multi-award winning edited book, “U.S. Power in International Higher Education,” published by Rutgers University Press in 2021. She is also recently co-edited “Intra-Africa Student Mobility in Higher Education,” published by Springer International Publishing, which focuses on capacity building in Africa.

Dr. Lee earned her PhD in Higher Education and Organizational Change at the University of California, Los Angeles, after completing her MA in the same program. She earned her BA in Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine.
