Joseph Glover

Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost

Joseph Glover is the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Arizona. He was appointed to the position on July 1, 2024. As the University's chief academic officer, he oversees all academic programs, faculty affairs, student affairs, libraries, Arizona International, Arizona Online, and student support services.

Prior to becoming the provost at the University of Arizona, Dr. Glover served as provost at the University of Florida for 15 years. During his tenure there, Glover helped oversee the university’s ascent to become a top-five school in U.S. News & World Report's ranking of U.S. public institutions. Throughout his provost career, Glover made it his mission to prioritize the quality of undergraduate education, and he initiated a comprehensive set of programs elevating the educational experience. He helped expand annual research expenditures beyond $1 billion.  He led UF’s AI initiative to build the nation’s first AI university and created a philosophy of “AI Across the Curriculum” to offer every student the opportunity to become AI literate, AI proficient, or AI expert. He also led initiatives that contributed to the hiring of more than 600 faculty members, including 100 focused on AI, and helped implement a new budget model.

Dr. Glover earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of California, San Diego, with expertise in probability theory and stochastic processes. He has served as principal investigator on a series of grants from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the National Security Agency, and he has been involved with national leadership in the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.
